Copper Mesh Packing - How Much Is Needed?
This question came up some time ago. I have since found the answer, as promoted on the web site that sells it: http://www.amphora-society.com/
As of mid-May 2009, this costs $15 per 1-pound roll. How much will volume will this properly fill? Well, this is what they have to say:

One pound of mesh is sufficient to pack 3 feet (1 meter) of 2" (50mm) diameter column.
2 pounds will pack 3 feet of 3" (75mm) diameter column.
