I have read a lot of the info you have posted, want to try to replace my lpg gas use.
Once I get start making ethanol every year will then look at getting the methane happening.

Bio Gas and Ethanol I think is the way to go.

Chris.

Funny thing, I need the methane working to make the ethanol happen. I cant afford any other heat source to boil water. If I can adapt the idea to my needs, I can open up funds to other projects because it would limit the cost of heating the house and shop while producing all the energy I need.

Waiting for my woodchips that were supposed to be here last week.

I have read yoour posts about the wood chips. I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish make methane or hot water. To make hot water it sounds like you are going through a lot of trouble. Maybe it is just that I don't understand. I think you want 140 degree hot water to distill ethanol as well as hot water to heat your house/shop. Why not use the ethanol you make to run a generator to make electricity? Then use electric heating elements to heat the water and run electric heaters

I'm already making ethanol and between the ethanol production and the cattail farming I dont have time for much else. I am just trying to keep my life simple.

I plan on producing enough ethanol to power my home/shop and run all my cars roughly about 10,000 gal. per year.

It was 80 degrees today. My cattails are almost 3 feet tall, my still isn't built yet and it won't stop raining long enough for me to finish all my cattail ponds.

I don't know how you find the time to do all you do. I hope after I get this place up and running things will calm down a bit. I still have fabricating to do on the rhizome separator (a big mesh box that shakes the dirt off the cattail roots).

I designed everything to run off solar power or ethanol.

I'll keep you posted on my progress.

I like to figure out how to use passive systems to provide something I need. Im working on various sources for methane for a number of different uses, including electrical generation, boiling water, and cold start systems for my winter vehicles.

I would be hard pressed to make enough ethanol to heat my house and shop with electricity from October to May, and the generator required is far beyond my means. Last year I had to start a fire at least once each month to keep the pipes from freezing or from having to wear a jacket in the house. In other words I need lots of heat, and the cheaper I can make it the better.

I cant just go buy most things, I have to figure out how to build them. Therefore something low tech and low buck that will fit a requirement is very interesting to me. :) Wanting to just drive my cars more often than once a month is what got me motivated to produce my own fuel. Poverty is the mother of necessity's inventions. :).
