Hello all I am located on the space Coast of Central Florida and have found out that I can grow cassava very well in our area. It looks as if I can get 1 pound to a half a pound of roots per plant. I have reviewed David's chapter on cassava my one question is, I'm not quite sure, if you have to use some type of conversion for the starch. It already is sweet to taste when you cook it. This looks like it could be a great crop for our area and according to the chart in his book It produces more alcohol than almost anything else we can grow next to sugarcane. It is probably one of the easiest plants I have ever seen to propagate, just cut a branch off stick it in a pot and it starts growing. the only drawback I can see is that it will not take a hard freeze so it's best to plant after our last frost has passed. If anyone has any information I would sure be interested and if anyone's interested in growing some cassava. I may be able to get them some starters.

Hi. I heard David on Coast to Coast. I don't know how feasible it is to produce alcohol at home, but maybe I might learn something with this group. I'm in Poinciana (near Kissimmee),

Finally! After 9 months of persistence, I received the building permit for Florida's First Earthship! We are building in Manatee County on 10 acres; the entire property is designed to be a model of Permaculture and sustainability. There will be a number of workshops going on during the build as well as opportunities for volunteers and interns to participate in various phases of the project. There will be two constructed wetlands for wastewater treatment that we would like to use for alcohol fodder and would welcome input from any members. For more information about the project, the website is www.earthshipfloridaproject.com

Antares, check out Agro Gas at http://kudzunol.com/ They are active in distilling ethanol from Kudzu in Tennessee.

I agree with D.Thomas Laskowski comments. The concept and ideas are great but the production of home brew, alcohol fuel will always be blocked due to the gov. needs for control.
We have to look at it as a business people. They want taxes from fuel sales and taking away fossil fuel will reduce the fed and state tax collections.
It's much like setting up a Walmart next to your mom and pop shop. Walmart prices will be cheaper but the need to collect taxes will not go away.
If we produce fuel for our own needs but set up a network to share ideas to build, maintain and improve production we might be able to avoid gov regulations and still do our part in reduction of fossil fuel consumption.

Anyone in the Kissimmee, Orlando or surrounding area (50 miles) interested in getting together and get this thing started or any groups already going that I can get in with?

Hi fellow Floridians. After I bought David's book in May of this year I couldn't wait to get the word out! I've been explaining and telling everyone about the wonders of ethanol and about David's book, and on of the very first things I did was email George Noory at C2C and told him about what a great guest Dave Bloom would be, and how we needed to get the truth out about ethanol! A lot of people heard his interview on July 17 of this year.
Now I'm working on converting and tuning my 18yo daily driver Honda to Flex Fuel. I'm also eagerly anticipating the arrival of our first E85 Fueling station here in Jacksonville.

I am in St. Pete and I am interested in forming a local CSE for alcohol and bio-fuel production. I am currently active on many fronts in promoting sustainablilty and renewable energy.
