HI Chris

I am using a separate boiler we are building at this time for running the still...but am hoping I can use backslop for next batch to control bacteria etc...I have started trying not to plan to far ahead as everything has been more or less different than what I have read it would be so far.

Sweet tank
Are you planning on heating your fermentor in order to kill unwanted yeasts, or are you going to use your boiler and then transfer wort/wash? I'm hoping to pick up a stainless spray tank for use as a fermentor sometime in the next couple of months at auction. Likely about half the size of that one of yours. Very cool.

HI Chris

If extra length has an adverse effect you can alway shorten it back to the spec's...I also thought the vapor chamber was good if you plan to produce from something larger than a 55 gallon drum...

Here is a pic of my new tank! My brother picked it up for me on his way over to my place to visit...I am very pleased with its condition and can't wait to get it set up...

Thanks Ron.
I'm building the 3" version. I was considering whether or not to add length beyond what the plans show in order to lessen the odds of low proof output. I suppose it cant hurt to add a little, and since you have too, I think thats what I'll do. If you're ever in the area you should stop by and talk shop.
I'm looking into using grains for the high potential return per pound, but I dont know that using an enzyme would be cost effective, and sprouting grain myself may not be feesable (finding space to dry 400lbs of sprouted grain). Fun stuff though :)

If you look careful on the plans it gives all the details and sizes for the 4" still...I added about 6 inches to the hot reflex section below the cooling coils and I added a little length to the condenser so mine is quite tall...you can see it on my page...all the info for the 4" and 6" versions are on the plans if you have the original ones (look in the notes on plan for more info)...

Hey Ron,
Question for you.
Did you go with the C803 dimensions just scaled up to 4" diameter, or did you extend the length to be more in line with the 1:24" ratio? Lots of folks seem to be using the C803, but some report limits to the proof (could be user error) and I've seen plans posted on the yahoo group that modify the design to be taller (this person also sells the units). I don’t want to cut a good piece of pipe too short.

Just ordered the pipe for my C803 column (3").
The only plumber in town who does large jobs really doesn't care to sell his scrap, so I had to buy a 10' length from Keller.
I'm pretty sure my wife will kill me when she finds out. :)

HI Chris

I got the tank used from a pharmaceutical researcher in Fife who placed an add to sell it...Not sure where he got it however it started life at a dairy then escaped somehow....
