I am building a one acre cattail farm. I am doing the site work now to build the first 1 acre pond.

Any information you can give me on alcohol production from cattails would be a big help. I need to build a still. Do you have a link to some plans\? Do you have a recipe for the mash? Have you tried to dry your stillage?

Very nice Rig my friend!
Never underestimate the power of the C803 once you get your rig dialed in she will flow 190+
"key to flowing fuel" you must be able to obtain 173 during your run at all times.
Preset your water valve before you make your first run.

The most important of all get your mash (slurry) up to a 20% + alcohol content when fermenting and than make your run.

Good luck to yea!!!!!!!!

Thanks Craig I would much rather buy your extra copper than get my own excess. As for barrels, I have an extra (two small bung holes) if you can use and/or we can likely help with the transport from Detroit. BTW I too am in Howell.

Hey Craig, nice to meet you. I'm trying to push the limit to see how much E85 I can splash mix into my Chrysler Pacifica without running into a problem. I'm getting my fuel at Corrigan Sunoco in Brighton. They have the best price for E85 I have found in the area, and are pretty competitive on gasoline, but not normally the best. The thing I appreciate is that I can get E85 and E10 out of the same pump, so I don't have to drive around to get the mix. So far, I have mixed 12 gallons of E85 with 8 gallons of E10 without any noticeable difference other than the drop in mpg. Let me know what you are up to.

Hi Craig, it's good to see that someone else in this area sees the oppertunity. I've been fighting my own economic challenges but have my parts list ready to get my C803 started. It seems that we should get together sometime soon.

What do you have to say about Dave's book "Alcohol Can Be A Gas"?
The book is jam-packed with information, just what I like about a tech book. Yet it is easy enough to read that you don't have to be an engineer to understand it. It has motivated me to begin the production of alcohol for fuel.
About Me:
I am an automotive engineer that has been interested in alternative fuels for many years. I live in a rural area that is well-suited to the production of alcohol fuel. I have available to me both farm land for growing feed stock as well as a wood lot for a locally grown heat source.
I am located in:
Howell, Michigan

Still Photos

The column for the still is complete. Now I am finishing up the final plumbing.

I am using a simple meat thermometer to indicate the column temp.

Louisiana leading the way in Local Ethanol Production Legislation?

I stumbled on this post in the Green Car Congress. Anyone for LA here to comment on this legislation?
The law still favors the large producers (5M-15M Gal/Yr plants), but I like the "field to pump" strategy.

First Still Project

I have been working on a Charles 803 still and am nearing the completion of it. I have yet to come up with a good boiler design using parts I have on hand or can obtain inexpensively. I plan to get a 55 gallon drum and modify it into a suitable vessel.
