Dear Denise and Tim;

Below are letters I have written over the past 5 months or so to various people, Van Jones' assistant, Nikki, Sierra Club pres. assistant, and so forth. Please take what you can use from these missives and go to it. I am happy to edit anything as you start out. My real email is jannetschraer@yahoo.com.

I have found that a little ego massage is a good way to start out. I disagree with M. Pollans disparagement of ethanol, however, I started the letter with thanks for his work on diversifying our food stock, you get the idea. First get them on your side than set them straight.

Thanks so much for your efforts, Jannet

Dear Nikki

I don't know who vets these things, so I am sorry to be bugging you. Please pass this information off the the appropriate person.

I met you at Van Jones' book signing at Diesel a few weeks ago. I fully support all of the efforts and would like to volunteer. Let me know how.

But for now, please set Van straight on the issue of ethanol. I will mail your office a copy of the book, "Alcohol Can Be a Gas" by David Blume. Also, view the attached links. They will give you a thumbnail of the issue. Van and David share the same vision of bringing jobs and opportunity to the undeserved in our society. Van's focus is a little more urban, David's a little more rural. But in Calif. urban and rural are pretty close. I live 20 min. from Oakland and am looking at ag land right now.

Please let him know that the objections to ethanol are oil industry propaganda, and studies done on these objections are exclusively funded by the oil companies. "Food or Fuel" is a not true!!! The US boasted a 1.6 Billion-bushel surplus of corn last year, yes, that's BILLION. Ethanol is not responsible for starving children in Africa , and we ethanol fans are tired of taking the blame for that horrendous tragedy. the US turned its back on Africa decades ago, and 60,000 children a day died of starvation long before ethanol.

It is critical that Van first, know the truth about locally produced ethanol, than embrace it as part of the many solutions he proposed in his book; local green jobs, (nothing is more green than local farming), respect for the environment, community control of resources, pride, empowerment and opportunity.

David would be happy to meet with Van at his earliest convenience.

Thank you so much for your wonderful work,

Jannet Schraer

Dear Mr. Pollan;

Thank you so much for your wonderful insights about our America 's 'curious ways' of nourishing people. Please take a few minutes to view the attached links. I believe you will be amazed at how close you and David Blume are in your hopes for our future.

David Blume, CSA, organic farmer and author of, "Alcohol Can Be a Gas," has worked tirelessly on; the correct, humane, and ecological way to produce fuel from crops, without compromising the world food supply, (the IMF and World Bank do such a good job at that already), nor using valuable crop land, nor using inorganic fertilizers or irrigation. You will be astounded. The way the US is doing it is the wrong way!!!

Please let me know the best address to send you a copy of his book. And when you are finished with your current speaking tour, and had a few days of quality sleep, David would be delighted to take you to a non corn-based lunch at your favorite Berkeley eatery. OR better yet, have a quick chat with him during your tour so you can accurately and comprehensively answer any questions on the subject of ethanol fuel derived from crops.

Thank you again, and best of luck,

Dear Prof. Reich;

With great delight myself and David Blume, author of "Alcohol Can Be a Gas,' listened to your broadcast address at The Commonwealth Club last week. Thank you for your great sense of humor and brilliant insights into the most serious issues we face today. And congratulations on the great work you will be doing with Pres. Obama.

I would be delighted to send you a copy of ACBAG, it's the Bible/Torah/Koran on the small-scale production of ethanol. What farmers markets are to sustainable, local food, ACBAG is to sustainable, local energy. Other than housing, which is,by definition, locally consumed, food and energy are up there as human needs, eh?

David's vision, outlined in the book will provide for: 25 million new, unexportable jobs, (DOE stats), reverse global warming, (growing energy crops sequesters 12X the CO2 from the atmosphere than is emitted during combustion), and provides for US energy independence, THIS YEAR!!! Since the propaganda and lies about ethanol; fuel v. food, more energy in than out, etc. are finally being put to rest, ethanol must be taken seriously as a solution to our most pressing problems. It's been a long road.

Existing cars can be easily converted to flex fuel, (kits are about $ 250.), and adding the computer part to the existing assembly lines is WAY easy. Wake up, Detroit .

Please view the attached links. David is in Berkeley most Wed.s and would be happy to take you out to a non-corn based lunch. The same invite has been sent to Michael Pollan, whom, after reading ACBAG, is no longer disparaging ethanol. Yea, Michael.

Finally, we are extremely interested in getting some of this information in front of Pres. Obama, and time is of the essence. A huge chunk of the upcoming stimulus pkg. must be devoted to small-scale, community-preserving, green-jobs producing, environment-cleaning, domestic energy-producing alcohol fuel. Robert, don't believe what they say, there is a Silver Bullet.

Talk to a farmer, talk to THE FARMER.

Take care, Jannet Schraer

Dear Mr. MacKenzie;

Thank you for your encouragement this morning, as I mentioned, I am sending you a copy of David Blume's "Alcohol Can Be a Gas," and please view the attached links.

I have not done any recent research on the subject, but I recall that the Sierra Club has been opposed to ethanol in the past. Well finally, the ethanol lies generated by the oil companies have been debunked. We want the SC to become a strong advocate for small-scale, locally-produced, environment-cleaning, community-revitalizing, jobs-generating, ethanol. Oh yea, and no more wars over black poison.

David would be delighted to have lunch with you and Mr. Pope at your earliest convenience, to help outling the Sierra Club's revised position on ethanol, he goes to Berkeley weekly.

Even from my fellow 'greenies' I hear the propoganda;

'Fuel v food,' The Truth: the US had a 1.6 billion-bushel corn surplus last year, 'More energy in than out,' The Truth: this fiction was funded my Mobile and on its face, it is absurd.

'Just as polluting,' The Truth: Ethanol fuel sequesters 12X the CO2 from the air as is exhausted, due to cultivation of energy crops.

The revered and respected Sierra Club must take a closer look at the brilliance of ethanol.

Finally, we do not support cellulosic ethanol in that for 25 years its large-scale production has been 5 year away. CE uses genetically modified organisms and takes the means of production away from the farmer/local producer. BP gave Berkeley $ 500 million to pursue this folly. Hmmmm....

Hi Denise & Tim,

Dave Stein here... I bought 17.8 acres in Waldoboro, Maine on 1-Dec-2008 and am building a pilot ethanol/permaculture integrated plant there this summer as well as my new earth-sheltered home. Where in NB are you?

Regards, Dave

I checked Google Maps and that's less than 6 hours from Waldoboro, ME... I'll be building this year, and hope to be in production by next fall. Yes, I know that's ambitious, but these are "interesting times" (as the Chinese curse goes: "May you live in interesting times!"). Have you checked out the oil, coal, and uranium reports at www.energywatchgroup.org and the IEA's World Energy Outlook 2008 report? Very interesting! These are my sister's (http://www.highdesertnet.com/morninghill/) and brother's (www.whentechfails.com) websites. I have an interesting family... who originally came to America from Scotland through Nova Scotia.

Best regards,
Dave
