I taught high end electronics repair (soldering with a microscope) in 29 Palms for 3 years then was with the base unit on Okinawa (Camp Foster) and set up com networks on the island. Also, I competed in the Far East Division matches at Hansen in 2003 and worked as a range coach/instructor for 5 months. Now I still trying to save the world, just a different approach.

Wow 6 acres! Even conservatively that should yield you 6K gallons of ethanol. Now, do you intend to parlay the byproducts into secondary products like Dave lays out in the book... tilapia, veggies etc.?
Keep me posted OK? If you get a moment I'd like to hear how you intend to get them out of the ground.

Hi
On your comment:

Yes cattails...We have about 6 acres of them on our place...since this picture they have been mowed as we are hoping to juice them next summer for a sugar crop to process...

The still has not been used yet we are still working on a boiler for it...the boiler is about half done and is a 450 gallon unit made of stainless...We are in the permitting process and BATF wants the boiler finished before they will issue a permit...

Thanks

Hi Jim!
I have just completed my still and boiler, and I have not yet made my first run. The still is a Charles 803 with a three inch column, these still is state of the art and the man that designed it really new what he was doing. As far as cost WOW copper is really really high and you do not use anything other than copper or stainless in still production. My still coasted me about 800.00 just for the still and the water valve and the temp gauge. IT took me about a week to complete working on it about 4 hours a day.The plans I purchased on line for 30.00 bucks and were sent to me via on line. The boiler I built from a stainless 55 gallon drum and a pressure cooker so I could turn the drum on its side for max efficiency. These still is complex and the blue prints and the plans were in great detail but if I were to do it again, I would buy a pre fabid kit all you have to do is put it together. If you want to send me a email gregborke@yahoo.com I can send you the link.
I just don't want to break any rules that this forum may have.
My best advice that I can give you is read everything you can get your hands on, ask allot of questions and don't let anybody tell you it cant be done. Best of luck!!!! \

What do you have to say about Dave's book "Alcohol Can Be A Gas"?
Wow what a resorce. A ton to digest. I find myself in it constantly. Telling everyone I know about it. So far I have three buddies that are very interested in the process. 2 have bought the book on my recomendation. It will be a vaulable tool for years to come. I'm almost 2/3 of the way through the book and find that all of a sudden I see boilers and pipe and other things that would fit well into a new still
