What do you have to say about Dave's book "Alcohol Can Be A Gas"?
Simply amazing! Alcohol Can Be a Gas is full college course in one book. In fact, it is an entire college education in one book!
About Me:
I love this planet! I have recycled and been frugal all my life when it comes to resources. I have an organic garden and don't use any chemicals, at all, for anything in my house, my yard or in me! My stated goal a decade ago was to see the chemical companies out of business before the end of my life and now I can participate in putting them out of business. I know several farmers in Ohio who follow best practice on their farms and I plan on involving all of them in our alcohol project. We're building a still that we hope to have up and running by April, 2009.
I am located in:

hello Maryann, Randy here, I live in Kent. I drive a big rig and have been interested in alternative fuel for several years. I was an owner operator for a while and used recycled veggie oil as fuel very well for nearly two years. I had an accident and killed that truck. I am a company driver now and have a grant writer working for me on several proposals. Thinks seem to be progressing well and hopefully will be funding soon.

I want to start again by converting another rig to use veggie oil then blend in Alcohol. I spoke to David Blume in person and he seems to think it will work with a 70-30 ratio alcohol to veggie oil. I am also planning on getting a diesel pick up that is already converted for veggie oil. I can experiment on that while I am getting the big rig out fitted. The heating of the fuel should work well for both veggie oil and alcohol. I am told I should probably get the alcohol as dry as possible for the blend with veggie oil.

One of the proposals my grant writer is working on for me is a partnership with some native americans that are farming sweet sorgum somewhere here in Ohio. Lets swap emails, IM's and phone numbers so we can communicate more directly. I use yahoo and am randy00789 for email and IM's my phone in 941-830-1166.

tell me a little more about what you are doing

Thanks Randy

I just heard that CItyFresh is having a meeting at the Great Lakes Brewery about alternative fuels on Monday February 16 about 7pm. I think it will be mostly about biodiesel and straight vegetable oil, but they have asked me to say a few things about alcohol fuel. There is some interest at Great Lakes Brewery about converting stale beer into alcohol fuel.

With the snow melting I can get back out to my garage again and start working on my still this week..,that is, until it gets below freezing again. Sometime this spring I will have a little meeting to show my still.

That part about feeding the people on two acres for two years...Impressive.

I have no problem in paying for things I need...but there is no free market when you go to the gas stations. They all get their product from the same root suppliers, and they are all owned by the same corporations.

And in a period of time where the economy is very unstable (I believe that we are at the entrance to that time) fuel prices and currency values may make it impossible to buy fuel. And if one takes into account what Mr. Obama seems to be proposing in additional taxes--as a disincentive to driving SUV's and larger vehicles--making your own fuel seems like a very practical idea.

If they can control your location, you've lost your freedom and ability to a assemble.

While there is a definite benefit to the environment, self-made ethanol seems like it could be a huge benefit to our family's economic situation.

I, too, am interested in the "independence" issue. I'm not sure what/why in particular it is about the political and social state of affairs in the nation right now that makes me think that there is an imperative need to be able to be independently capable of sustaining our life. I'm not certain that lifestyle preservation is even the point. I want to make sure that we as a family (first) and as a community (collectively) are able to maintain and preserve ourselves.

Do you have any particular course of action that you want to follow?
