How long will fermented feedstock last before we need to distill it?

We're in a time crunch, help!  We just harvested our sorghum crop, milled it for juice, and we need to stretch this out as long as we can so we can get the still together.  HOW LONG will the juice…Continue

Fodder Beet Varieties - What Is The Best?

Dave talks about fodder beets as a good crop in his book, but he does not talk about the varieties.  Any tips on which variety/varieties are best for alcohol yield?  Thanks!Continue

Hi Rebecca, It's been a pretty busy summer and I haven't had much time to work on the still. Work should start slowing down soon and I plan to get back on it. I was thinking about using cattails and sugar beets as a crop to grow for fuel. Your the only one I've heard of that's interested in alcohol around this area. If you want to get in touch with me call me at 802-472-3036. I did email you a while ago at the email address Michael Winks posted on the forum and didn't hear back from you. Is that a good address?  Frank

BTW, you don't have your state listed in Location, hard to find you as a neighbor!

Hi Rebecca,

Hey, life in the forum! This is good!

Yeah, it's a funny thing, if you look at the "index pages" there is a place that shows location, below name. Yours doesn't; but, once on your page itself, of course it's clear, that's why I wrote you.

I only read the book a couple of weeks ago, or less; heard about it through a Permaculture group. Very het up about it, but astonished and discouraged how little the topic is known about, even amongst "green" and activist groups. Of course, the same could have been said about me, two weeks ago!

So, trying to find others, and connect - hence my voyage through the index pages - one page at a time! I made it half way through, tonight.

    Thanks very much for writing!

Best,

    Christian
