Your cattail digging equipment can be a great asset to others who would like to dig rhizomes and transplant cattail root balls. Our transplants from the summer did not show any set-back and started new growth immediately.
Sure Kelly. I will send you an email with information about our books and newsletters. We request that when someone joins our newsletter group that they keep us informaed about their trials and successes so that we can all learn from each other.
Hello Kelly. If you would like to join our newsletter group, please send an email to rpk@gvtc.com and I will send you the latest news letter plus future newsletter. As you will read, I always suggest starting out small and growing as you gain proficiency. Cattail are prolific the world over. I submitted a lengthy review to www.biofuleswiki.org which will give you a great deal of information. The most important message about collecting specimen in nature is to collect from the bottom up. This means sliding something like a modified shovel beneath the plant deep enough to cut the tap root. If possible follow the rhizomes with your hand or carefully with the shovel blade. Lift from beneath the plant. The rhizomes break naturally to give the plant a fresh start with new growth. However it is the rhizome that has the rich starch concentration.

If you add me as a friend, then I'll email both of you on one email to introduce you to each other. He is way up in the UP, about 20 miles from Marquette, MI and less than a mile from Lake Superior.
