Running on E-85 seems to be cheaper per mile than E-10. Runs well once it gets going, but starting out is a little more trouble.

I am having a problem with Roberts explanation in his plans.
The problem is .....where is the exact location of the copper mesh in the 8" bubbler section.
Is it above or below the plate with the 1/8 holes that these copper scrubbers are to be inserted?

There is a great article on the history of alcohol and why we now have gas instead. "A Sociological Look at Biofuels: Ethanol in the Early Decades or the Twentieth Century and Lessons for Today" by Michael S. Carolan (Dept of Sociology, Colorado State University) is a wonderful look at the past. It would be worth tracking down.

Are there any still operations within a days drive of Walla Walla WA that we might be able to visit and learn first hand. Thanks, Allen

Hey guys tell me what you think of this alternative fuel WATER of all things. It breaks down water into its two components which when injected into the air intake help reduce the gas, grease, alcohol or any other type of fuel. Please review and post back.

is there any groups in the phoenix area who meet on the subject ( alcohol can be a gas ) ? in other words a group
of people who might want to start a co-op based on a lot of private people ? i thought several people in this area
could get organized and study the possiblity. it won't be long before the price of gas will be way up again. a small
group of people might be able to do a lot. hope to hear from someone on this subject.

I just got a question from a friend and woner if anyone knows the law re: Illinois gas tax?
Harv:
Aside from the tax credits for a CSE, are there any levied
gas/road taxes for not using and paying the Illinois ~21
cent/gal. tax at the pumps?
Thanks, John

I am part of an interest group exploring the possibility of creating a CSE. My task is to connect w/ existing CSEs in the region (SE US) so that we can consult with experienced people. We don't want to re-invent the wheel. I would appreciate references.

What a super time at the seminar at Illinois State University on Feb. 13 and 14. I had a great time networking with fellow alcohol fuel enthusiasts and like minded people. David has lit a fire in Central Illinois that we intend to fan!

The Meeting industry is in as much trouble or worse (since the companies going under are the ones who have the meetings) but this business supports more than those of us who do the shows. This effects everyone (in some way) in what ever town meetings are promenade. From the staff of the hotels (check in, maids, maintenance workers, waiters, set up people, bartenders, etc...)to the Theme parks (in our case) who these people go to in many cases renting a section of the park for parties to the loca…

Maybe I'm dull & this is hopefully more of a conformation request than question.
Can you mix your feed stocks as long as you keep the starchy vat (in other words the tubers, cassava, etc) and sugar vat (fruits (you can mix fruits right), veggies, molasses, etc) separate during fermentation then mix them together for distillation?
Question 2:
What page does David talk about cooking with donuts and throw away pasta? I have a possible source for stale pastry's and breads.
BTW still looking for…

I broke down and bought two more T-unions, some valves, more 1/4" line, and a spool of 6" wide copper sheet. I was having difficulty finding 3" tubing for the condenser so I decided to build one from sheet. It is more effort, but the price was right considering I can build a bunch of other stuff from the sheet, and really I only needed an 11" long piece of the 10' roll. Plenty left over for more projects. So now I will have two stills, and I might try one with plates rather than packing, it may…

Greetings! I'm Laurie Masters, freelance editor and Alcohol Can Be a Gas staff member since August of 2008, when Dave asked for my help shortly after he appeared on Coast to Coast Radio for three hours and blew out all the circuits at PayPal, AT&T, and Dreamhost with more calls and Web hits than anyone could have anticipated. What a blessing that was for this amazing cause that had, until that point, garnered precious little media attention.
In recent weeks, I have begun taking on the role…

This particular blog might go for a few months with nothing in it, at least until the snow is gone and I can work outside. As I make progress, I will shoot photos and post information. I am on a very tight budget, as this isn't the only project I have going, so it will be done inexpensively and when time and funds permit, just like everything else I do.
It's a 79 Pontiac Trans Am that I traded for some parts, it has rust I need to repair, but is in otherwise good shape. As I go through the reju…

I stumbled on this post in the Green Car Congress. Anyone for LA here to comment on this legislation?
The law still favors the large producers (5M-15M Gal/Yr plants), but I like the "field to pump" strategy.

I have been working on a Charles 803 still and am nearing the completion of it. I have yet to come up with a good boiler design using parts I have on hand or can obtain inexpensively. I plan to get a 55 gallon drum and modify it into a suitable vessel.
